This is a picture of the rudder end with the mentioned standoff. the connecting rod runs forward to the side stick steering lever. there are lots of different ways to steer an airboat, there is foot steering and the same side stick steering using a "push - pull" cable are other common methods but the one pictured is the simplest.. Airboat rudder design when it comes to wood boat building, there are two techniques in boat developing which i strongly recommend you think about. these are the stitch and glue technique and the ply over body method.. Fabricating the rudders is no big deal, anyway, garage racers do it all the time, building "wings" for sprint cars, dirt trackers, and so on. evan's method could easily be extrapolated to the airboat rudder (plywood frame and ribs covered with fiberglass or light gauge aluminum, something along those lines)..
